Honouring the past while designing for the future.

The brief was to create a thoughtful balance between heritage, character, and contemporary family living within a Grade II listed Devon barn conversion.

OUTCOME

The project is focused on restoring and reimagining the barn in a way that respected its heritage, craftsmanship, and connection to place, while improving the functionality, comfort, and sustainability of the home for contemporary life.

Working closely with the existing architecture, the aim is to retain the soul and imperfections of the building rather than over-refine them while celebrating original materials, natural textures, and the quiet beauty of age and wear. Alongside this, the project explored how thoughtful spatial design, material choices, and craftsmanship could create a home that feels grounded, warm, and deeply connected to both its history and surrounding landscape.
